frequently asked questions

Yes! Your child’s first lesson is free and will be scheduled at your convenience. During the 45-minute lesson, we will assess your child based on water confidence and swimming skills and then placed in a stage-appropriate class. Drop us a text at +65 8787 2992 to arrange your trial.

The class ratio is a maximum of 6 students to 1 instructor for Learn To Swim (Foundation / Intermediate) and Baby Classes. For Toddler levels, the class ratio is set at 4 students to 1 instructor.

  • What do I need to bring/prepare for my child’s swimming lesson?
Please ensure that your child has a pair of swimming goggles and is properly attired in swim attire – rashguard / wetsuit / swimming costume or shorts. Water-resistant and child-friendly sunblock is also a good idea.
  • What do I need to bring or prepare for Baby cClass?
For Baby Class, please ensure that your child is wearing swim wear and a swim diaper – do get in touch with us if you need directions on where to purchase one! A long-sleeved rashguard is also recommended to keep your child from the sun. Please ensure that you are in proper swim attire (swim costume / shorts / rashguard / wetsuit). It is also required to bring along a loose-fitting t-shirt to be worn over – this is for your baby to learn how to grasp hold of you in the water. Don’t forget sunblock for both of you!
  • Do I need to join my child in the water?
For Learn To Swim program, you are not required to join your child in the water. Baby Classes are hands-on so one parent is required to be in the water with the child at all times. (Trust us, the bonding is well worth the effort of getting wet!)
  • What if my child cries during the swimming lesson?
First things first, don’t worry. It’s normal for your child to feel afraid and uncertain in a new environment and crying is just their way of releasing the anxiety that they feel. Our coaches are experienced and well-equipped to engage and familiarise your child with the surroundings. (It will get better, we promise! Find out more from two mums in this blog post here.)
  • What if my coach is on leave?
A Red Dot Penguin coach will be present to replace your regular coach if he or she is on leave. You will receive an email reminder before class each week with the name of the replacement coach. All our coaches follow the same curriculum and approach to maintain the quality of the lesson. Red Dot Penguins train all our coaches in-house and stand by the expertise and professionalism of our coaches.
  • What happens if my child forgets to bring his/her swimming goggles?
We have limited spare swimming goggles available – just approach our friendly front-counter staff for help. Shared equipment is sanitised before and after use.
  • What if my child falls sick on the day of the lesson and has to miss a lesson?
You can notify us about your expected absence through our Student Portal up to 60 minutes before your class starts. Doing this earns you a Make-up Token! However, if you miss the grace period due to a last-minute emergency, please let us know and we will do our best to assist you.
  • What happens to my child’s class if it rains?
Singapore’s weather can be tricky, and we get it—it’s frustrating when the rain shows up uninvited! Here’s how we handle things to keep everyone safe: If there’s heavy rain or lightning, we’ll delay the class start time for up to 10 minutes. If the weather doesn’t clear by then, we’ll cancel the class and issue a Make-up Token. For classes already in progress, we’ll stop immediately if there are lightning warnings. If the class has already gone on for more than 30 minutes, we consider it conducted, and no Make-up Token will be issued. Classes will resume if there’s no Cloud-to-Ground lightning activity reported within a 6km radius (based on NEA-MSS alerts), the team may decide to continue. Your child’s safety is always our top priority!
  • Why doesn’t Red Dot Penguins give advance notice for weather-related cancellations?
Because the weather here changes in a blink! Our team is always on-site to monitor conditions and make real-time decisions. Plus, sometimes these rainy days mean smaller class sizes, so your child might get a little extra attention if things clear up. 🌧️🐧 For cancellations and rescheduling (including the use of Make-up Tokens), our Student Portal is your best friend.
